Big-screen fans will soon be able to enjoy the latest movies while maintaining social distancing as a new drive-in open cinema is soon set to open in Muscat.
The ambitious project (Oman drive-in cinema) is designed to accommodate 500 cars, from which audiences can watch movies in 4K resolution on two individuals screens size 9×16-metre screen equivalent to the height of a five -storey building and wide up to 8 storey building .
While the location of the cinema is yet to be announced, Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Zadjali, CEO of the project, said that plans are also underway to open two more drive-in venues in the capital in July 2020.
Talking exclusively to Merge 104.8, he said that the idea came as a response to the Supreme Committee for COVID-19’s directives to ensure that social distancing is implemented in all public spaces.
“Cinema-goers can now enjoy their favourite films in a safe environment and inside their cozy, air-conditioned vehicles,” Al Zadjali said.
The drive-in cinema space will be equipped with 40 fans that will cool the whole area, and Al Zadjali says that each fan has the power to cool a 16-storey building.
Customers will be able to book online and choose either VIP or Regular locations — however, the venue has allocated areas for cars based on their model (sedan, SUVs and sports cars) to ensure good screen visibility for all.
Food and drink concessions will also be served as part of the ticket package, in addition to a free car wash.
Al Zadjali said that each car can have a maximum of two customers, but the price is the same for solo guests.
