COVID-19 Vaccines Free For All Citizens and Residents in Oman

The Supreme Committee held a press conference today, to discuss the latest Coronavirus-related developments in the Sultanate, as well as the new decisions that were announced yesterday.
- Oman’s Ministry of Health reported 69 new COVID-19 cases, 11 hospitalizations, and zero COVID-related deaths in a 24-hour period.
- The Coronavirus vaccine is available to all citizens and residents for free.
- There is a difference between the third dose of the COVID vaccine, and a booster shot. The third dose is for the immunocompromised, and the booster dose is for anyone aged 18 and above.
- The elderly lady who passed away from COVID yesterday was unvaccinated.
- There are 90 suspected cases of Omicron in Oman, and they are currently under observation. All of them have been vaccinated and their conditions are stable.
- The Supreme Committee decisions that were announced yesterday are valid until the 31st of January, 2022, if the epidemiological situation does not take a turn for the worse. The committee will continue monitoring the situation, and decisions will be made accordingly.
- The Supreme Committee did not resort to measures such as lockdowns, because they are relying on the citizens’ and residents’ sense of responsibility.
- The symptoms of Omicron are: runny nose, fever, fatigue, sore throat.
- The symptoms of the Omicron variant are milder than other variants, but the strain does spread faster.
- Citizens of the UAE and Oman can still visit each others’ countries, with a PCR test taken within 14 days prior to entry.
- The Ministry of Labor announced that any employee who has not received two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, will not be allowed to enter his/her workplace.
- Cases have doubled in the last 7-10 days, and the number of COVID infections is expected to increase.
- According to studies, two doses of the vaccine gives around 22% immunity against the Omicron strain, while a third dose offers around 75%.
