COVID-19 serological survey to start in Oman today

Merge 104.8  |  12 July 2020

Twenty-thousand Omanis and expatriates will have their blood drawn starting from today [Sunday, July 12] as part of the Sultanate’s national coronavirus serological survey.

This epidemiological study is designed to evaluate the population’s immunity against COVID-19.

Speaking to Merge 104.8’s sister station Al Wisal, Dr. Soleen Al Khalili of the General Directorate of Disease Control at the Ministry of Health (MoH) said that selected participants will be called by MoH authorities and asked to visit certain health centres to undergo the blood test.

Data will be collected from the test subjects via the Tarassud Plus app, and will include blood sample results, demographic information, the subject’s medical history, symptoms, and social status.

The results will help health authorities in the Sultanate to identify patterns of infection and immunity that will aid in determining the timing of lifting of regulations on businesses in the country — decisions which are based on epidemiological data.
