At the outset of the meeting, His Majesty praised the efforts undertaken by Oman’s government to control the COVID-19 pandemic in the Sultanate. He also expressed confidence in the Supreme Committee’s role and recent decisions taken during the situation.

His Majesty also expressed his appreciation for the efforts of all — especially Oman’s healthcare workers, the Sultan’s Armed Forces, and the Royal Oman Police, along with security authorities in various governorates and other government and public sector institutions, all citizens and residents and, also, the media for their role in raising awareness amid the pandemic.

During the meeting His Majesty issued directives to open a central laboratory for public health which will be in-line with the latest technologies and technicalities and will cover all health necessities required in any scenario.

His Majesty expressed his assurances that the number one goal for the Sultanate since the first COVID-19 case was reported in the country, is to protect everyone who lives here in this land — whether they are citizens or residents — and, also for the government to continue its efforts towards minimizing the effect of the pandemic on businesses in Oman.

His Majesty also expressed that, due to the continuity of the current situation — and, given the fact that there is no vaccine yet available to treat the coronavirus — it’s very important that the society learn to adapt to living with this virus in our communities and to gradually accept this new scenario.

His Majesty re-iterated that this cannot happen unless the public steps in to do their part in society and follow all directions and protective measures, and follow all awareness programs which are being broadcast through different media channels.
