Along with a medical team from the Ministry of Health and Sultan Qaboos University.
Touching on developments amid the ongoing COVID-19 situation in the Sultanate, Supreme Committee members noted the following:
Minister of Health, Dr. Ahmed Al Saeedi
— There is no clear evidence that the increase in numbers of COVID-19 cases in Oman and globally are linked to the re-opening of businesses and commercial activities.
— When precautionary measures were followed more people, there were only 7,740 by May 24, 2020. That was three months after the first case was reported in Oman. Now, in the country, in one month the total has reached 34,902, which means over 27,000 cases have been recorded in June alone.
— When it comes to fatalities, up until May 24, 2020 there were 46 deaths, but up until yesterday in June Oman has recorded 106 deaths for a total of 142.
— These numbers had starting increasing even before businesses were allowed to re-open.
— Oman’s COVID-19 death rate remains less that 0.5 per cent, while in some other countries that death rate has varied between 3 and 12 per cent, as healthcare systems could not accommodate the influx of cases in hospitals.
