COVID-19 Live: 30% of fatalities in Oman among patients with diabetes

Speaking at the ninth press conference of Oman’s Supreme Committee for COVID-19, Dr. Frial bint Ali Al Lawati, Sr. Consultant & Head of Infectious Diseases with the Ministry of Health confirmed that 30 per cent of COVID-19-related fatalites in the Sultanate were among patients suffering from diabetes.

Dr. Al Lawati also stated that Oman’s fatality rate among overall cases stands at 0.5 per cent.

His Excellency the Minister of Health, Dr. Ahmed Al Saeedi also reiterated the importance of adhering to Supreme Committee directives that prohibit any form of gatherings as the khareef tourism season approaches in Dhofar Governorate, in an effort to help curb the spread of COVID-19 during this season.

His Excellency also stated that there are plans to increase the number of ICU beds in hospitals across the Sultanate. He also noted that Oman is facing challenges in the number of local and expatriate healthcare staff and is considering support from other experts to help manage the situation.
