Merge 104.8 | 26 July 2021
As part of Oman Vision 2040 goals to digitally transform the country, all commercial establishments will have to provide electronic payment services to consumers by the beginning of the year 2022.
The new rule will be implemented in phases, and in the first phase, the electronic payment will be mandated for all activities in industrial areas, complexes, commercial centers, gift markets, food sales, gold and silver sales, restaurants and cafes, fruits and vegetables, as well as for transactions involving electronics, building materials, and tobacco.
The Central Bank of Oman will coordinate with banks and service providers to make it easier for merchants to make the transition, without any installation, monthly, or annual fees. Other fees may be applicable, and those with any questions can contact their local bank for more information.
