The Ministry of Information and the Authority for Public Services Regulation held a press conference today, to discuss the rise in electricity prices that was witnessed over the past few months.
The Authority’s chairman, Mansoor al Hinai, said that the authority wishes to alleviate the society’s burden, especially following the devastating global effects of the Coronavirus pandemic.
He explained that the high electricity bills are due to the subsidy redirection program launched this year, adding that the government will reconsider the subsidy decision, and that citizens will be allowed to pay their bills in installments.
The chairman also said that there will be no tariff increases during summer months this year, and that electricity consumptions for the months of May and June will be recalculated in accordance with the new approved categories.
Finally, the Authority vowed to protect the rights of all citizens, adding that any company that violates its decisions will face a hefty fine.
